About Us
The Orienteering Sport Federation (India) is the national governing body responsible for the promotion, regulation, and development of the sport of Orienteering across the Republic of India. It is a provisional member with the International Orienteering Federation (IOF).
It functions as the central authority for organizing competitions, establishing standards, affiliating clubs and state associations, and representing India at international Orienteering forums.
Orienteering is an internationally recognized outdoor navigation sport that combines athletic ability with mental skill, requiring participants to navigate through diverse terrains using a map and compass. The sport encourages physical fitness, environmental awareness, and strategic decision-making, making it ideal for youth development, education, and recreation.

To establish India as a leading nation in Orienteering by developing a structured framework for participation, training, and competition at all levels, while upholding the core values of fair play, integrity, and excellence.

Functions and Responsibilities

Affiliation and Governance: Formulation of rules, affiliation of state associations and clubs, and enforcement of ethical and technical standards.

Competition and Events: Organization of national championships, zonal events, and international series.

Education and Training: Development of certified programs for athletes, coaches, mappers, and technical officials.

Mapping and Course Development: Standardization of mapping practices and establishment of permanent Orienteering courses.

Youth and Grassroots Development: Promotion of Orienteering in schools and colleges through awareness programs and skill-building activities.

International Relations: Coordination with the International Orienteering Federation (IOF) and other national federations for the exchange of expertise, athletes, and officials.
International Cooperation
The Federation actively promotes cooperation with international bodies to enhance skill development and cultural exchange.
Partnerships such as the Indo–Mauritius Orienteering Bilateral Series and collaborations with the International Orienteering Federation and the Park World Tour (Sweden) reflect India’s growing presence in the global Orienteering movement.
Governance
The Orienteering Sport Federation (India) operates under its Constitution and Bye-laws, ensuring transparency, accountability, and adherence to national sports governance standards.
All affiliated units function under the guidance of the Federation and are required to comply with its regulations and development policies.
